Last chance to sign up for our 21st Birthday Party

WOW!!  LICHFIELD MYSTERIES ARE 21 YEARS OLD!
If you haven't already done so, now's the time to sign up for our 21st Birthday party - whilst there's still room in the hall!

YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR
21ST BIRTHDAY PARTY
27th November 2015
The Lichfield Room, Wade Street Church 8.00– 10.00pm
We are having a’ bring and share’ party – come and share food and memories from the 7 amazing productions of Lichfield Mysteries.
There will be an opportunity for you to see some of the recording from the first ever performance in 1994 plus lots of photographs and news cuttings from the past 21 years - but please bring along your own photos – we’d love to see them!
We want to invite everyone who has ever been associated with Lichfield Mysteries but it will be impossible for us to reach everyone so we are asking you to help us by passing this invitation on to anyone you know who has been involved. Please spread the word far and wide; we want our celebration to be as much fun as the Mysteries are!
Really important bit!! To accept the invitation, email jilltaylor@lichfieldmysteries.co.uk  Jill will need to know how many people are coming and who to expect. She will then email you back with further details and ask you to bring along either a sweet or savoury dish to share.

Mysteries models wanted

Margaret Jackman at a photographic session with Phoenix photographers last year

Lichfield Mysteries and the Rugeley Phoenix Photography Group are looking for models for a photo session in October.
Four or six models are needed – male or female and from any age group – but they must be available on a Monday afternoon between 1.30 and 3.45pm.
The session, in Rugeley, is to help promote the Mysteries and at the same time give the Phoenix photographers some portrait practice.
Costumes will be provided from the Mysteries’ huge collection. There will also be cake!
If you’d like to become a Mysteries model, please email Ann Mayo for full details: annmayo@btinternet.com.

York Mystery Plays Conference 2015

I spent the weekend in the beautiful city of York where I attended the York Mystery Plays Conference 2015 as their Guest Speaker.
The conference was held in the delightful surroundings of the National Centre for Early Music which also houses the York Mysteries Archive (there's some fascinating material here including programmes dating back to the first revival of York Mysteries in 1951).

The conference was titled 'Performance in the Changing City: taking the plays to the next generation'. Each of the speakers came from very different perspectives; throughout the day I discovered all about  the process of  re-interpreting medieval drama, the challenges of outdoor performance, medieval resonances in modern day performances and ways of reinterpreting the stories for the next generation. The ensuing discussions provided much food for thought - and gave me lots of ideas...

I really appreciated the opportunity to talk 'Mysteries' with people who are just as passionate about them as we are here in Lichfield and to discover the many different approaches other organisations take.
It's brilliant that no two Mystery Cycles in the UK are the same.

We were also treated to an excellent performance of' The Barbers Pageant of The Baptism of Christ' by HidDen Theatre  - what better way to round off the day!

Thank you to York Wagon Mysteries for organising the event - a really informative and thought-provoking day. It was lovely to meet you all and I'll definitely be staying in touch. Can't wait to see your next production!
